Mike discovered freediving during a scuba diving trip to Cozumel, Mexico. One afternoon he left the tank ashore and equipped with only his left lung and his right lung, set out to explore the Mesoamerican reef.
He has since travelled to top freediving destinations in the Caribbean where he has dived and trained with some of freediving's most respected and knowledgeable professionals, and obtained his PADI Freediver Instructor certification.
Although diving in the Caribbean sea is one of the most pleasant freediving experiences in the world, one of Mike's favorite places to dive is actually right here off the Toronto Islands.
Mike created Toronto Island Freediving to connect the GTA to this wildly popular sport. The Toronto Islands and Humber bay offer an exciting underwater playground conveniently located near downtown.
Mike is also a professional engineer and is responsible for public safety in the structural design of buildings. He borrows the same ethics and professionalism from a career in engineering and applies them to his promotion and teaching of the sport of freediving.
